COSGARNE SUPPORTED ACCOMMODATION

If you, or one of your clients, needs somewhere to live, and support to help you, him or her to live an independent life, we may be able to help

Within walking distance of the centre of St. Austell, at Cosgarne Hall, Greenaway House and 22 Bodmin Road, we provide basic, affordable accommodation for 48 single homeless people who have been unable to find a home elsewhere, or have been evicted from it. We accept anyone from any part of the County, including ex-offenders and people with drug and alcohol and other problems: our aim is not to turn away anyone who needs what we offer, if we can possibly help it.

We have an experienced Support Team based at Cosgarne Hall, helping our residents to address the causes of their past homelessness, lead an independent life and move on to a permanent new home when they are ready to do so.

They help our clients to deal the accommodation related consequences of a wide range of problems, such as:

Drug and alcohol misuse
Depression
Unemployment
A history of offending
Learning difficulties
Partnership break-ups
Financial mismanagement
Generally chaotic lifestyles

This is not an exhaustive list. We aim to help as many people as possible, whatever their problems may be. We are not, however, equipped to accommodate children. For more information on the support offered, click
here.

Cosgarne Hall is open to everyone, irrespective of race, creed, colour, sex, sexual orientation and background.

We do not insist on abstinence from alcohol. We provide support and counselling for those with alcohol related problems, encourage and support them to address those problems, and do our best to discourage excessive and irresponsible use of alcohol, but we do not prohibit our residents from drinking, on or off the premises. For details of our alcohol policy, click
here.

Our buildings are not fully supervised hostels. Residents are free to come and go as they please and, so long as they engage positively with the support team, to lead whatever lifestyle they choose, provided that they can do so without upsetting their neighbours (including the local community). The aim of our service is to encourage residents to live independent lives, but with the security of support when they need it.

As well as the accommodation, we have training facilities on site and in conjunction with St. Austell College, the Eden Project and several other agencies, we organise various courses and other activities on- and off-site for our residents, including a cooking club to help them to eat properly. Our Residents take an active role in the running of the Service, through an elected Residents' Committee and the Cosgarne Volunteers. There is also a café at Cosgarne Hall – run by Residents, for Residents - click
here.

Cost
The cost to someone on benefits can be as little as £8.50 per week, dependent on individual circumstances.

From St. Austell town Centre, head West along Truro Road, through the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill and we are the last turning on the left before the next set of traffic lights at the top of the hill. Coming from Truro, take the left fork for the Town Centre and we are the first turning on the right after the traffic lights. For a map, click
